INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF SECULARISM IN SOCIETY AND CULTURE (ISSSC)
|
Based at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, the Institute for the Study of Secularism in Society and Culture (ISSSC)
is at the forefront of developing new college and university curricula
on secularism; researching the growing secular populations of many
countries; and examining how secular societies develop and function
worldwide. It was established in 2005 to advance understanding of the
role of secular values and the process of secularization in
contemporary society and culture.
Since its founding, the ISSSC
has developed and hosted two international research conferences, one in
Hartford, one in Rome, and published valuable collections of scholarly
and sociological papers, Secularism & Secularity: Contemporary International Perspectives and Secularism & Science in the 21st Century.
Under the stewardship of founding director Dr. Barry Kosmin, the ISSSC
plans international conferences, hosts lectures and colloquia, conducts
demographic research, and develops material for scholars, journalists,
and the public.
