New Jewish Time: Jewish Culture in a Secular Age—An Encyclopedic View (2007)
This
erudite and encompassing work, published in Hebrew in five volumes and
funded primarily by the Posen Foundation, focuses on the process of
Jewish secularization throughout the last 200 years and its impact upon
Jewish life and history.
New Jewish Time includes
sections on Jewish social movements; Jewish artistic expressions;
Israel/Diaspora relations; and antisemitism. A variegated tour through
Jewish literature, historiography, society, state, art, and culture,
the Encyclopedia is intended for an educated lay audience, as well as
students and teachers. Assembled by more than 230 leading scholars
under the stewardship of Yair Tzaban, the initiator and director of the
Encyclopedia; Dr. Yirmiyahu Yovel, the Editor-in-Chief; and Editor
David Shaham, New Jewish Time is already a formidable resource—a landmark in the field of Secular Jewish Studies.
English and Russian-language versions of New Jewish Time are being developed.
